Canopy Tour – Vertical Trek Ground Breaking

March 5, 2009

The Roundtop Mountain Adventures Vertical Challenge

declinetrek1The Roundtop Mountain Adventures canopy tour is not all in the canopy.  It is a challenge course that descends Ski Roundtop from the top of Gunbarrel to the bottom of the Ramrod chair. The official name is the Vertical Trek.

Course Construction Started

Those of you who have been skiing Gunbarrel over the past couple of weeks may have noticed the beginning of the Trek construction.  Some people have even asked if it is a new ski run. We walked the decent with the creator today and this is what we saw so far. At this point it is basically just clearing underbrush. There is very little damage to the forest in this project. Large trees, rocks and other natural features will be incorporated into the features of the Trek. From the top of the Gunbarrel chair there will be a short walk to a set of zip lines that take the adventurers to the top of the headwall just to the left of Gunbarrel.

From there the various features take a canopy tour down the head wall via zip lines, a 25′ burma, a 65′ multivine and Indiana Jones bridge and more.  Each feature will have the option of a short hike around it if  you prefer to skip a certain part of the decent. The lower half of the Vertical Trek includes bridges, black holes, a Tarzan swing and other exciting adventures. The Trek is for physically fit adventurers who are between the ages of 10 and 85 years old. (We are still fine tuning the age and height requirements for the Trek.)

The total Trek is expected to take groups of up to 10 at a time approximately 2 1/2 hours to trek down the mountain. It won’t be long until you and your friends will be flying, rappeling and zipping down the Vertical Trek.  Today we took our first group reservation for the Vertical Trek!!
